Executive Order Mandates Completion of ITDS

July 10, 2014

President Obama signed an Executive Order mandating the completion of the International Trade Data System by the end of 2016. ITDS is a digital portal would allow businesses to submit forms and data through a “single window.”

Importers and exporters expect to see major improvements in the way they move goods through global trade resulting from today’s Executive Order mandating completion of ITDS by the end of 2016. AAEI has been working with the White House on providing data to forecast the time and cost that U.S. companies and the federal government will save from the completion of ITDS. AAEI sees completion of ITDS as an important part of the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE).

“We see ITDS as being just as important as ACE,” says AAEI President and CEO Marianne Rowden, “because companies run into delays and incur costs primarily due to other government agencies, not Customs and Border Protection.” ITDS, which has been in development for years, is a digital portal would allow businesses to submit forms and data through a “single window.”

AAEI will be working diligently to monitor implementation of ITDS to ensure federal agencies meet their commitments under the Executive Order to ITDS is completed by the 2016 deadline.
