White House Update

President Trump announced on Truth Social this week that the EU has “called quickly” to set up trade talks before the July 9th deadline.

President Trump also suggested that Apple will have to pay a tariff of 25% or more for iPhones made outside the U.S. in a Truth Social post last week.

In response to the Trump Administration’s recent tariff actions, AAEI’s Customs Committee launched a Tariff Working Group. The next meeting is on Tuesday, June 3rd at 2:00 p.m. EST and will include a discussion on how brokers are playing a crucial role in navigating the complexities of tariffs and ensuring compliance for importers and exporters.

If you are interested this working group or a Committee, please visit AAEI’s Member Hub to join. After logging in, click “My Info” and add the Working Group to “Lists/Committees.”

AAEI Actions

AAEI joined the EU Shippers Council webinar, which included more than 40 companies from Europe and Asia, to discuss U.S. and EU trade war perspectives. AAEI shared updates on the America First Trade Agenda, the impact on U.S. companies, and how U.S. companies are mitigating tariffs. ESC Secretary General Godfried Smit outlined key U.S.-EU trade negotiation goals, including equalizing or removing duties on industrial goods and increasing EU market access for U.S. businesses.

AAEI sent a letter to the FDA last week addressing the permissibility of imports for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). AAEI’s Healthcare Industries Committee (HIC) seeks greater permissibility to import and manufacture APIs to provide quality data to the FDA before needing to submit applications. For more on these important topics, attend the HIC in-person meeting on June 25, 2025, at 2 pm, prior to the Annual Conference & Trade Day June 26-27, 2025.
