AAEI members have an opportunity to learn more about Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) implementation and the future of forced labor enforcement. The UFPLA’s rebuttable presumption goes into effect on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.
AAEI announced that is has scheduled a meeting for members with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials for an update on the agency’s ongoing forced labor enforcement. The event, open to all members, will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. EDT. Contact AAEI for more details on how to attend.
CBP recently added a webpage on the UFLPA to its website, which includes an overview of the law, resources, relevant Federal Register Notices, and a section on CBP’s Advanced Notice of Known Importer Letter. In that section, CBP says, “In advance of June 21st, CBP will be issuing letters to importers identified as having previously imported merchandise that may be subject to the Act to encourage those importers to address any forced labor issues in their supply chains in a timely manner.”
In April, AAEI provided oral testimony on the law’s implementation at a public hearing. A month earlier, AAEI submitted written comments to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
