The White House and Labor Department announced that freight railroads and rail unions have reached a tentative agreement on worker contracts. Although the contracts still need union ratification, the agreement averts a strike and railway shutdown by pushing off the deadline for several more weeks.
In a White House statement, President Biden says, “The tentative agreement reached … is an important win for our economy and the American people.”
AAEI members are relieved that a tentative agreement between the railroad workers and the railroads has been reached. Forty-percent of products in the U.S. are moved by rail. An efficient, secure, and effective rail system is essential to the U.S. supply chain and helping to relieve the current emergency congestion crisis at U.S. ports.
