As co-chair of AAEI’s Transpacific Committee, Mark Hirzel is leading the way on AAEI’s efforts to end port congestion and ease the burden on U.S companies due to sharply rising port-related charges and fees. Mark co-wrote an AAEI letter to the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) last April that was shared with the White House staff. The letter highlighted the burden of port congestion on exporters and contributed to recent action taken by the Biden Administration and the FMC.
Mark manages the Export Compliance team at Honda which oversees export projects including denied party screening, drawback and Honda’s participation on the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) program. Before working at Honda, Mark started his trade career in service side of the Customs Brokerage and Freight Forwarding industry.
The Transpacific Committee, formerly AAEI’s Western Regional Committee, currently is capturing the impact of port congestion on importers and planning the groundwork on AAEI’s advocacy strategy this fall.
