May 8, 2024 – AAEI’s 103rd Annual Conference and Expo in Fort Lauderdale, June 10-12, 2024, will focus on trade challenges facing importers and exporters and the strategies required to meet them. AAEI is featuring many of this year’s conference speakers. The spotlight this week is on U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP’s) Acting Commissioner Troy Miller.
Mr. Miller will deliver a keynote speech to attendees during AAEI’s “Fireside Chat with CBP Leadership.” Expected topics will include an overview of CBP’s priorities and operational challenges, including NextGen Customs, the Centers for Excellence and Expertise (CEEs), the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) program, managing de minimis shipment volumes, intellectual property rights (IPR), ACE 2.0, and illegal fentanyl shipments.
In his role at CBP, Mr. Miller, whose formal title is Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner, directs CBP’s core missions, including trade enforcement and facilitation. CBP oversees $4 trillion in U.S. trade annually.
Mr. Miller previously served as the Director, Field Operations for CBP’s New York Field Office. As the DFO, he directed the activities of almost 3,000 CBP employees and an area with: two of the country’s busiest international airports, John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR); the east coast’s largest container seaport (New York/Newark); and the Pharmaceutical, Health and Chemicals Center of Excellence and Expertise (PHC Center).
