April 10, 2024 – AAEI’s 103rd Annual Conference and Expo in Fort Lauderdale, June 10-12, 2024, will focus on trade challenges facing importers and exporters and the strategies required to meet them. AAEI is featuring many of this year’s conference speakers. The spotlight this week is on U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP’s) Executive Assistant Commissioner AnnMarie Highsmith.

EAC Highsmith will be featured in AAEI’s “Fireside Chat with CBP Leadership.” Topics for the discussion will include an overview of CBP’s priorities and operational challenges, including NextGen Customs, the Centers for Excellence and Expertise (CEEs), the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) program, the de minimis threshold, intellectual property rights (IPR), ACE 2.0, and illegal fentanyl shipments.

In her role at CBP, EAC Highsmith oversees enforcement of more than 500 U.S. trade laws, 14 free trade agreements, and work on seven top trade issues, including intellectual property rights violations, forced labor, duty evasion, misclassification, environmental trade crimes, and trade-based money laundering through risk-based, data driven enforcement. From 2013 to 2021, Highsmith served as Deputy Chief Counsel for CBP.

EAC Highsmith will speak to conference attendees on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 8:05 a.m. EDT. For more information and the latest updates on AAEI’s 2024 Annual Conference, see AAEI’s event webpage.
