April 17, 2024 – AAEI’s 103rd Annual Conference and Expo in Fort Lauderdale, June 10-12, 2024, will focus on trade challenges facing importers and exporters and the strategies required to meet them. AAEI is featuring many of this year’s conference speakers. The spotlight this week is on Michael Cerny of Charter Brokerage.

Michael will be a panelist for “Drawback: Duty Savings through Diligence.” Michael is the co-chair of AAEI’s Drawback and Duty Deferral Committee and nationally recognized as a top expert on drawback. Michael also serves on the Drawback Working Group which meets with U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP’s) Office of Trade several times a year to discuss drawback concerns.

Many importers do not realize their full duty recovery potentials. Drawback can help optimize trade compliance departments to become profit versus cost centers. At AAEI’s annual conference, Michael will discuss how you can cultivate the latest duty drawback approaches for maximum gain.

Michael currently serves as Chief Legal Officer for Charter Brokerage. He has more than 30 years of experience in customs and international trade, with extensive work in duty-drawback law and practice, and continues to be actively engaged with CBP on drawback matters. In addition to being a member of AAEI’s Board of Governors and work on the AAEI Drawback Committee, Michael’s professional accolades include serving on CBP’s Trade Support Network as a TSN Trade Ambassador and as the chair of TSN’s Drawback Committee.

Michael’s panel will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 2:10 p.m. EDT. For more information and the latest updates on AAEI’s 2024 Annual Conference, see AAEI’s event webpage.
